Weekend Wrap-Up

Kicked off our new series this weekend called Mind Games. Powerful message today talking about the Face and Nature of our enemy.

I wanted to have some songs that would remind us that “Greater is He that is in us - then He that is in the World”. To hit home on this we  introduced Lee McDerment’s song Overcome off of his album A Matchlight in the Dark (AWESOME ALBUM!). It went over great for playing it for the first time. We had it at both of our campuses and both teams did an incredible job rocking this one out! The opening riff on this song is just cranking!

We followed that up with Desert Song - “I am a conqueror and co-heir with Christ” - another awesome song!

Finished up the set with My Desire by Jeremy Camp - great response song challenging our church to present our lives to be used by God.

The pipes got quite a workout on some of these songs today - and then we had a practice for the Warrior Men’s Conference coming up this weekend - it’s gonna be sick! I’ll put up our setlists when we get back - Just hope the voice can hold out for all 3 days!

Weekend Wrap-Up

We had an awesome Sunday at Granite this week. Had a great time celebrating our moms at all 3 campuses. Had a cool creative element created by our worship intern that was a montage of clips of Moms caring for their kids - we had this playing on the big screen while the band played “The Best Day” by Taylor Swift. A little outside of our comfort zone (went all acoustic and pulled out the stools - oh yeah!) - but the band KNOCKED IT OUT of the park. Was a cool moment.

Here are some sweet videos that Ryan B. took during our Christmas Service this past Sunday - man there were so many people who gave God their best this weekend - staying late for practices, helping setup, teardown, run tech, greet, usher, run kids ministries…the list goes on and on.

And God showed up in an awesome way with people giving their hearts to Christ!!! That’s something to get excited about!!

There is nothing like the local church, when the local church is working right.

Last Thursday I left church with it raining a little bit, hopped in my car, and was clueless to what the next four days would contain. As everyone in New England knows we got nailed with an ice storm thursday night which made Friday morning a morning of surprises, questions, strange beauty, and a lot of people without the basic comforts of home (heat, running water, electricity). While the extensiveness of the damage is amazing - thousands still without power - it was the stories I’ve heard over the last few days of the church being the church that has really made my eyes get wide.

People taking in those without heat, helping move debris, repair flood damage, provide places to hang out..sleep..shower..feel human again. I know there have been bigger social disasters before and for many this is just a week or so of inconvenience, but for me I got to see people extending God’s love to others, offering a hot cup of coffee, and meeting real needs. It was cool.

One thing I did notice was the power of community. People who were involved in a small group, investing in each others lives were easy to spot because they had someone by there side, maybe a family that they were bunking up with, maybe borrowing a chainsaw, and so much more. I had one guy tell me, “Thanks, but man you don’t have to worry about me, I have people who are looking out for me.”. Like Bill Hybels says, “There’s nothing like the local church, when the local church is working right!”
